Epigenetic modification, specifically DNA methylation, is one possible mechanism for transgenerational plasticity. Before inheritance of methylation patterns can be characterized we need a better understanding of how environmental change modifies the parental epigenome. Specifically, methylation patterns should be understood in reproductive tissue. This study examines if acute exposure to experimental ocean acidification induced differential methylation in Eastern oyster reproductive tissue.

表观遗传修饰(Epigenetic modification),尤其是DNA甲基化(DNA methylation),是介导跨代可塑性(transgenerational plasticity)的潜在机制之一。在明确甲基化模式的遗传特性之前,我们需要更深入地理解环境变化如何调控亲代表观基因组(parental epigenome)。具体而言,应聚焦生殖组织中的甲基化模式展开研究。本研究旨在探究急性暴露于实验性海洋酸化环境下,是否会在东部牡蛎(Eastern oyster)的生殖组织中诱导产生差异甲基化现象。
