VPRS 15735 Schedules of Land Grants, Leases, Licences and Sales Submitted for Approval, Closer Settlement

Schedules presented to the Crown Lands Division of the Board of Land and Works relating to Closer Settlement show both the matters considered by the Board and the decisions reached. Details of leases, licenses, sales, grants, insurance proposals or wirenetting schedules were listed on the Board pro forma. Each item was allocated a consecutive number. The Office Number (the file number allocated by the Occupation Branch or other branch of the Department) for each item was also given. Details of the name of the applicant and the area and value of the land are given whilst for correspondence items, the subject is recorded. The Remarks column was used to record the recommendations made to the Board regarding the matter with the decision being recorded in the final column of the pro forma. Other details are the date of the meeting and the names of the presiding officer and other members present.The Board of Land and Works (VA 744) had statutory responsibility for the functions of lands and survey and for public works. Legislation defined matters for which Board consent were required. From 1964, after the abolition of the Board of Land and Works by the Public Lands and Works Act 1964, the powers, authorities and duties were transferred to the Minister of Lands. It may be that the Board considered other matters for which statutory authority for final decision-making was given to the Governor-in-Council.
