Ecological and economic outcomes of mangrove restoration: a meta-analysis approach

This dataset is used to conduct a comprehensive meta-analysis of the peer-reviewed literature on mangrove restoration to estimate its outcomes across different functions and economic costs/benefits. The peer-reviewed literature were firstly searched through ISI Web of Science Core Collection and Elsevier Scopus using generic wording for restoration impact without restriction on publication year on 22 December 2019. The second search was conducted using a refined keywords of 26 identified ecosystem function categories on 30 June 2020. In total, we identified 395 cases from 188 quantitative studies focusing on the outcomes of mangrove restoration on different functions, as well as economic costs and benefits of mangrove restoration. 962 observations from 88 studies covered 21 types of functions met the criteria to perform meta-analyses. We also extracted 30 cases spanning ten types of economic benefits and 68 cases spanning six types of restoration costs to conduct benefit-cost analysis.
