An interspecific cross of almond and peach results in F1 plants exhibiting regular meiosis and full fertility (Kester and Assay, 1975). In light of the high synteny observed between potato and tomato as well as between sorghum and maize, it was thought that study of the almond-peach hybrid might provide Prunus-wide insights.
