An interspecific cross of almond and peach results in F1 plants exhibiting regular meiosis and full fertility (Kester and Assay, 1975). In light of the high synteny observed between potato and tomato as well as between sorghum and maize, it was thought that study of the almond-peach hybrid might provide Prunus-wide insights.扁桃与桃的种间杂交可获得子一代（F1）植株，该植株减数分裂正常且完全可育（Kester和Assay，1975）。鉴于马铃薯与番茄、高粱与玉米之间均存在高度共线性（synteny），此前学界认为，对扁桃-桃杂交种的研究可为整个李属（Prunus）的相关研究提供全局性的深入见解。
