About 99.9% of the Ethiopian goat populations are indigenous and managed by smallholder farmers. They are phenotypically and genotypically diverse and managed under different agro-ecological zones including the two extreme environments. Therefore, they are known for their hardiness, adapted to different environmental conditions (hot, cold, and drought stresses), and survive and reproduce in low input production systems. The current, genomic data will be used for studying population structure, genetic diversity, dispersal routes and selection signatures of the complex traits of Ethiopian goats. It also helps for decision-making on genetic conservation and improvement programs, and is used as an input for the global goat genome research
埃塞俄比亚山羊种群中约99.9%为本土品种,由小农开展饲养管理。它们在表型与基因型层面均具有丰富多样性,且被饲养于涵盖两类极端环境在内的不同农业生态区中。正因如此,埃塞俄比亚山羊以优异的抗逆性著称:它们能够适应高温、低温与干旱胁迫等多样环境条件,可在低投入生产体系中存活并繁衍。本次发布的基因组数据将用于解析埃塞俄比亚山羊的种群结构、遗传多样性、扩散路径以及复杂性状的选择印记;该数据同时可为山羊遗传保护与改良计划的决策制定提供支撑,并可作为全球山羊基因组研究的基础输入资料。
