Inuit Knowledge (IK) study into impacts of snow goose abundance on land, animals, and people near Coral Harbour and Arviat, Nunavut, Canada (NGMP ID EC48)

The purpose of this study is to: (1) articulate Inuit research questions about white goose overpopulation in Nunavut and then to collect Inuit Knowledge (IK) to answer these questions; (2) use these questions and answers to develop management recommendations for the species that address Inuit concerns and perspectives, and present these recommendations to land and bird managers in Nunavut; (3) bring together science and IK practitioners to share results and develop common management recommendations. We hope to share project results with other communities across the Arctic who also have issues with abundant white geese. This project is currently being funded by Nunavut General Monitoring Plan (NGMP), POLAR Knowledge Canada, the Nunavut Wildlife Management Board (NWMB) and Environment and Climate Change Canada.
