Environmentally-transmitted symbiotic bacteria must often balance the selective pressures of host specificity and abiotic fluctuations from their surroundings. Here, we investigate the genetic basis of phenotypic adaptation to these challenges via comparative genomics. Genomes of four strains of Vibrio fischeri isolated from four different squid species living in varying temperature and salinity environments as well as one free-living Vibrio were sequenced. These sequences were compared to others from symbiotic and free-living vibrios for gene orthology, functional subsystem, selection, and phylogenetic analyses.

经环境传播的共生细菌通常需要权衡宿主特异性与周遭环境非生物因子波动所带来的选择压力。本研究通过比较基因组学方法,探究这类细菌应对上述挑战的表型适应遗传基础。本研究对4株分离自4种不同鱿鱼宿主的费氏弧菌(Vibrio fischeri)菌株进行了全基因组测序,这些宿主生存于温度与盐度各异的环境中;同时还测序了1株自由生活的弧菌。将上述测序得到的基因组序列与其他共生型及自由生活弧菌的基因组序列进行比对,开展基因直系同源、功能子系统、选择压力及系统发育分析。
