The elasmobranchs are typically found within marine environments. However, some species, such as the Spiny dogfish (Squalus suckleyi) have been found in waters that are brackish. The underlying mechanisms that these animals use to deal with the alterations in osmotic gradients is not clearly understood. This study used RNA-seq to compare the transcriptomic changes from baseline (0 hours in 100% salt water) to short (12 hours) and long (48 hours) term exposure to 65% salt water in kidney tissue.

板鳃类(elasmobranchs)动物通常栖息于海洋环境中。不过部分物种,如棘刺狗鲨(Squalus suckleyi),已被发现可存活于半咸水水域内。目前学界对这类动物应对渗透压梯度变化的内在调控机制尚未完全阐明。本研究采用RNA测序(RNA-seq)技术,对比了肾脏组织在基线状态(100%盐度水体中培养0小时)、短期(12小时)与长期(48小时)暴露于65%盐度水体后的转录组变化。
