NRS-4355 | Sydney Police Centre Site Office: Unregistered papers

The Sydney Police Centre project began in September 1975 when the Premier instructed the Minister for Public Works to commence planning and appointed a Committee of Review to oversight the preparation of plans. In November 1976 the Premier directed that construction should proceed on a staged basis. A project team was then formed comprising architects from Public Works and officers from the Police Properties Branch to prepare a design brief; this was completed and approved by March 1978. Sketch plans were prepared and approved by October 1979. In February 1980 bulk excavation commenced and construction began in September of the same year; it was planned to complete the centre in 1983. After considerable delays the building was finally completed in 1986. These papers include: a history of the project, 1968-73; programming; procedures; copies of minutes of the Committee of Review; minutes of meetings with clients and consultants; correspondence with consultants and structural engineers; design brief investigations; original and final briefs; site studies - feasibility, environmental and soil; specifications; progress reports; site instructions; minutes of site meetings; room data sheets; and reports on site investigations, geotechnical investigations, programming, costs and study tours.
