The challenges faced in transforming library in Thailand

In this era of digital transformation, the Bureau of Science and Technology Information (BSTI), Department of Science Service (DSS), which is a specific library, is in transit from the traditional towards the digital library. Changes in library collections from print to digital, e-books, e-journals, online databases and mobile application services, have been recently developed and provided for the variety of users, science and non-science background. With high degrees of complexity in science and technology context, new library’s work processes to develop scientific understandings and providing easily access have been developed for the micro-entrepreneurs (mainly non-science background). The science and technology authentic practice knowledge was transferred from the scientist and specialist experiences and was effective designed to convert to digital format for use in digital media. The digital technology facilitates the users especially in the micro-enterprises business to learn and apply the science and technology knowledge in their product development process. The lists of multimedia are: 1) Extending shelf life of Thai curry pastes, 2) Cotton fibre dying with natural dyes, 3) Mould prevention in wicker handmade products, 4) How to succeed in online marketing, 5) How to create an online store and 6) Packaging design and development. All the digital media have been published at the BSTI library’s website (http://siweb.dss.go.th) and in the social media. The BSTI library has intention to continue creating several science and technology digital media and publishing in social media to develop strong communities and strong knowledge-based societies.This development will move toward the goals of stability, prosperity, and sustainability, in accordance with the principles of Sufficiency Economy Philosophy.
