Gossypol is a sesquiterpene produced by cotton plant and is toxic to organisms. Oxycarenus laetus is a pest of cotton that is not affected by the toxicity of gossypol. Here, we have performed transcriptome sequencing of O. laetus fed on (1) Abutilon indicum (no-gossypol), Gossypium hirsutum (natural gossypol) and seeds of G. hirsutum treated with gossypol to identify genes differentially expressed upon exposure to gossypol.

棉酚(Gossypol)是棉花植株合成的倍半萜类化合物,对生物体具有毒性。短翅细腹长蝽(Oxycarenus laetus)作为棉花的害虫,却不受棉酚毒性的影响。本研究对取食以下三种食源的O. laetus开展了转录组测序:(1) 无棉酚的苘麻(Abutilon indicum)、(2) 含有天然棉酚的陆地棉(Gossypium hirsutum),以及(3) 经棉酚处理的陆地棉种子,旨在筛选出暴露于棉酚后发生差异表达的基因。
