Differential expression of genes upon exposure to gossypol in Oxycarenus laetus

Gossypol is a sesquiterpene produced by cotton plant and is toxic to organisms. Oxycarenus laetus is a pest of cotton that is not affected by the toxicity of gossypol. Here, we have performed transcriptome sequencing of O. laetus fed on (1) Abutilon indicum (no-gossypol), Gossypium hirsutum (natural gossypol) and seeds of G. hirsutum treated with gossypol to identify genes differentially expressed upon exposure to gossypol.棉酚（Gossypol）是棉花植株合成的倍半萜类化合物，对生物体具有毒性。短翅细腹长蝽（Oxycarenus laetus）作为棉花的害虫，却不受棉酚毒性的影响。本研究对取食以下三种食源的O. laetus开展了转录组测序：(1) 无棉酚的苘麻（Abutilon indicum）、(2) 含有天然棉酚的陆地棉（Gossypium hirsutum），以及(3) 经棉酚处理的陆地棉种子，旨在筛选出暴露于棉酚后发生差异表达的基因。
