Evaluation of a Nucleic Acid Preservation Protocol for Microbiome Studies Involving Samples from the Oral Cavity

The study aimed to comprehensively evaluate the effectiveness of a newer DNA-preserving approach, using the DNA Shield (Zymo Research) buffer, for sampling and storing oral microbiome specimens. It compared this method to standard freezing protocols to determine whether the buffer could provide a more convenient and effective solution for preserving microbiome samples from all major oral sites. The findings contributed to the development of a streamlined workflow for oral microbiome research.
