FAO has been trying to enhance perennial agriculture, especially in developing countries, and that includes developing perennial versions of currently annual crops. This is because 1) the agricultural system has financial advantages for farmers over annual agriculture, 2) crop yields not consistently high but consistent, and for other benefits. Perennial agriculture has advantage also for environmental conservation; 1) year round soil protection and lack of soil disturbance, 2) deep rooting systems, 3) stable soil structure and soil health, and others. However, no examination has been made for the effect of the agriculture on soil ecosystem. Thus, we compared microbial community compositions of green pepper rhizosphere among perennial, annual, and annual + no tillage management systems.

联合国粮食及农业组织(Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations,简称FAO)长期致力于推动多年生农业发展,尤其在发展中国家,相关工作涵盖将现有一年生作物培育为多年生品种的实践。其核心原因包括:其一,该农业体系相较一年生农业,可为农户带来财务层面的优势;其二,作物产量虽非持续高产,但稳定性更佳,同时还具备其他多项益处。多年生农业同样具备生态环境保护层面的显著优势:其一,可全年为土壤提供保护且不会扰动土壤结构;其二,拥有深层根系系统;其三,能够维持稳定的土壤结构与土壤健康,此外还有其他诸多益处。然而,目前尚未有针对该类农业模式对土壤生态系统影响的相关研究。为此,本研究对比分析了多年生、一年生以及一年生免耕三种管理模式下青椒根际(rhizosphere)的微生物群落组成。
