Blue indigo dye is one of the oldest natural dye produced from Indigofera tinctoria endemic in India. Due to awareness of personal and environmental toxicity of synthetic blue dye, demand of natural dye is increasing. So far, the bio synthetic pathway of indigo has not been fully elucidated due lack of molecular analysis of indigo plant. The present investigation reports the expressed transcripts in leaf tissue which is a source of indigo biosynthesis and storage.

靛蓝染料是源自印度特有植物木蓝（Indigofera tinctoria）的最古老天然染料之一。鉴于人们对合成蓝色染料的人体毒性与环境危害的认知日益加深，天然染料的市场需求持续攀升。迄今，由于对靛蓝植物的分子分析不足，靛蓝的生物合成通路尚未完全阐明。本研究报道了作为靛蓝生物合成与储存位点的叶片组织中的表达转录本（expressed transcripts）。
