Agricultural Product Market Integration, Fiscal Support, and the Reduction of Chemical Fertilizers and Pesticides: Empirical Evidence from China

The weekly price data used to calculate the market integration index was obtained by web scraping from the website of the National Important Agricultural Products Market Information Platform of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs in February 2025. The dataset only presents the calculated market integration index. Data on primary sector employment are sourced from provincial statistical yearbooks, with missing values imputed using interpolation methods. Data on new plant variety applications and grants come from the China Science and Technology Statistics Yearbook and the China Intellectual Property Yearbook. Application and grant data for 2019 and 2023 were supplemented by classifying information from announcements on the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs website based on the province of the applicant's address. Other data come from the National Bureau of Statistics website and the China Rural Statistical Yearbook.
