This project aims to evaluate different locally available organic materials such as grape pomace and biochar, best suited to improve the quality of these sandy soils, enhance soil biota, and increase blueberry production. These locally available materials are otherwise burned or disposed as waste. More specifically, we are looking at impacts of different organic amendments on bacterial community of soils, which are instrumental to sustainably manage soil resources to promote future cultivation.

本项目旨在评估多款本土可获取的有机材料——例如葡萄果渣(grape pomace)与生物炭(biochar)——此类材料最适用于改良该类砂质土壤的品质、增强土壤生物群落,并提升蓝莓产量。若不加以资源化利用,这些本土易得材料通常会被直接焚烧或作为废弃物处置。具体而言,本研究聚焦于不同有机改良剂对土壤细菌群落的影响,而土壤细菌群落对于可持续管理土壤资源、推动未来农业种植均至关重要。
