This dataset was collected from the Marine National Facility RV Investigator voyage IN2020_V08, titled: "SOLACE - Southern Ocean Large Areal Carbon Export: quantifying carbon sequestration in subpolar and polar waters". The voyage took place between 4th December 2020 and 15th January 2021, departing from Hobart (TAS) and arriving in Hobart (TAS). The aim of this voyage was to quantify both the physical and biological downward carbon export pathways. This dataset describes the gravitational pump and includes raw and processed data.
A free-drifting surface-tethered array, mounted with 3 particle interceptor traps (PIT), and 3 C-RESPIREs (i.e., dual particle interceptors/incubators), was deployed for a period of 3 days, on 7 consecutive deployments at 3 contrasting sites. The PITs and C-RESPIREs were deployed at 3 depths between ~180-300 m. POC, PON, BSi, pigments and numerical particle fluxes were measured with the traps.
Carbon-specific microbial remineralization rates, size-specific sinking velocities and UVP-derived POC flux were estimated for each deployment site.

本次研究部署了一套自由漂浮式表面系留阵列,搭载3台颗粒拦截捕集器(particle interceptor traps, PIT)与3台C-RESPIRE装置(双功能颗粒拦截/培养器)。该阵列在3个环境特征迥异的站位连续开展7次部署,单次部署时长为3天。颗粒拦截捕集器布设于约180~300米的三个深度层级,通过捕集器完成了颗粒有机碳(Particulate Organic Carbon, POC)、颗粒有机氮(Particulate Organic Nitrogen, PON)、生物硅(Biogenic Silica, BSi)、色素含量以及数值颗粒通量的测定。
各部署站位均估算得到了碳特异性微生物再矿化速率、粒径特异性沉降速率,以及基于水下视觉剖面仪(Underwater Vision Profiler, UVP)反演的颗粒有机碳通量。
