Replication Data for: Women's political empowerment and poverty reduction from a global perspective :Empirical analysis based on panel data

Clarifying the effect and mechanism of women's political empowerment on poverty reduction will help promote national poverty reduction and summarize the poverty reduction experience. On the basis of summarizing the theoretical literature on women's political empowerment and poverty reduction, this paper uses the global panel data (1993 – 2018) to establish a fixed effect model and a mediation effect model, and conducts a macro econometric test on the effect and mechanism of women's political empowerment on poverty reduction at the national level. The research found that women's political empowerment has a significant positive effect on national poverty, which is still valid in the instrumental variable model and robustness test. In addition, the poverty reduction effect of women's political empowerment is more prominent in countries with relatively low levels of economic development. The effectiveness of women's political empowerment can be achieved by improving the level of national integrity, promoting their economic empowerment and increasing government investment in education. The empirical analysis results verify that women's political empowerment can promote poverty reduction, and also provides potential policy inspiration for poverty reduction in the world's developing countries and rural revitalization in China.

厘清女性政治赋权对减贫的作用与机制，有助于推进国家减贫事业并总结减贫经验。本文在梳理女性政治赋权与减贫相关理论文献的基础上，采用1993年至2018年的全球面板数据，构建固定效应模型与中介效应模型，从国家层面对女性政治赋权的减贫作用与机制开展宏观计量检验。研究表明，女性政治赋权对国家减贫具有显著的正向促进作用，该结论在工具变量模型与稳健性检验中均保持稳健。此外，女性政治赋权的减贫效应在经济发展水平相对较低的国家中更为突出。女性政治赋权的减贫效能可通过提升国家清廉水平、推动女性经济赋权以及加大政府教育投入得以实现。本次实证分析结果不仅验证了女性政治赋权能够促进减贫，同时也为全球发展中国家减贫工作以及中国乡村振兴提供了潜在的政策启示。
