Bananas are a globally significant crop, yet varieties like Cavendish and Hom Thong are highly susceptible to banana blood disease (BBD). This study focuses on gene expression patterns in the resistant variety compared to the susceptible following infection with Ralstonia syzygii subsp. celebesensis. The RNA was extracted at 3 time points after innoculation; 12 hr, 1 day, and 7 day. RNA sequencing (RNA-seq) identified serveral genes linked to BBD resistance, showing significant upregulation as early as 12 hours post-inoculation. Enriched molecular processes include hydrolase activity and effector-triggered immunity (ETI) responses, validated by quantitative real-time RT-PCR. These genes offer potential as markers for breeding BBD-resistant banana varieties, supporting efforts toward sustainable banana production.
