Data from: An annotated species list of the benthic algae and invertebrates in the kelp forest community at Point Cabrillo, Pacific Grove, California

Subtidal observational data from a technical report published in 1974 have been transcribed. Observations are focused on algae and invertebrates. Data were collected over the course of two undergraduate courses (Summer 1971 and Fall 1972), with a few additional observations from 1973. The study site is located at Hopkins Marine Station in Monterey Bay, CA. In this dataset, we provide data from Table 1 and the species lists compiled into a single table. Phylums listed include Phaeophyta, Rhodophyta, Porifera, Cnidaria, Polychaeta, Polyplacophora, Gastropoda, Decapoda, Bryozoa, Echinodermata, and Ascidiacea. 367 species names are listed and most include descriptive information.
