Randomized placebo controlled trial of oral tannin supplementation in COVID-19 patients

A randomized, placebo-controlled trial of 143 COVID-19 patients was conducted at the University Hospital de Clinicas, Buenos Aires. A total of 124 patients receiving standard-of-care treatment were randomized to receive tannin-based dietary supplement or placebo for a total of 14 days. Blood and stool samples were collected for cytokine and 16S rRNA microbiome profiling at enrollment and after supplement completion. Results were compared with 53 healthy controls.

本研究于布宜诺斯艾利斯临床大学医院（University Hospital de Clinicas, Buenos Aires）开展，针对143名新型冠状病毒肺炎（COVID-19）患者实施随机安慰剂对照试验。共计124名接受标准诊疗方案的新冠患者被随机分配至单宁基膳食补充剂组或安慰剂组，干预周期总计14天。研究人员在受试者入组时及干预结束后，采集其血液与粪便样本，用于细胞因子及16S核糖体RNA（16S rRNA）微生物组谱分析。最终将试验结果与53名健康对照者的数据进行对比分析。
