Bacterial Species Are Associated With Pleural Catheter Colonisation and Infection

Indwelling pleural catheters (IPCs) are used to manage pleural effusions, but use is complicated by infection. Though Staphylococcus aureus is a common pathogen, the microbiology of colonisation (bacterial growth without infection) and its relationship to infection is poorly understood.
