Supplementary Figure S1. Copied from van Gastelen al. (2022). Scheme of the experimental setup. The experimental basal diets were a grass silage-based diet (GS; green), a diet with a mixture of grass silage and corn silage (GSCS; orange), and a corn silage-based diet (CS; blue). These diets were supplemented with different dosages of 3-nitrooxypropanol (3-NOP), namely 0, 60, or 80 mg 3-NOP/kg DM (NOP0, NOP60, and NOP80, respectively). The first 14 days represent the covariate period in which baseline measurements took place. The experiment consisted of 2 cross-overs, each with two 1-week measurement periods.

实验基础日粮共分为三类：以青贮牧草为基础的日粮（GS；绿色）、青贮牧草与玉米青贮混合日粮（GSCS；橙色），以及以玉米青贮为基础的日粮（CS；蓝色）。所有受试日粮均添加不同剂量的3-硝基氧基丙醇（3-nitrooxypropanol，3-NOP），剂量分别为0、60、80 mg 3-NOP/kg干物质（DM），对应组别依次记为NOP0、NOP60及NOP80。
实验前14天为协变量期，期间完成基线测定。
本实验包含2个交叉试验阶段，每个阶段均设有2个为期1周的测定周期。
