WATER TEMPERATURE and other data from SEAS EIFFEL, ANGO and other platforms in the TOGA Area - Pacific from 1990-12-03 to 1991-09-04 (NODC Accession 9200008)

The water depth and temperature data were collected in TOGA Area - Pacific (30 N to 30 S) as part of Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere (TOGA) project from over a dozen ships between December 3, 1990 and September 4, 1991. The originator's bathythermograph (XBT) data containing 1177 profiles were submitted on a diskette by Jean-Paul Rebert, Institut Francais de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la MER (IFREMER), Plouzane, France. The data have been converted and are now available on line in C116 (XBT) file format of NODC.

The data type C116 contained temperature-depth profile data obtained using expendable bathythermograph (XBT) instruments. Cruise information, position, date and time were reported for each observation. The data record was comprised of pairs of temperature-depth values. The XBT data files contained temperature values at non-uniform depths. These depths were recorded at the minimum number of points ("inflection points") required to accurately define the temperature curve. Standard XBTs can obtain profiles to depths of either 450 or 760 m. With special instruments, measurements can be obtained to 1830 m.

本数据集系热带海洋全球大气（Tropical Ocean Global Atmosphere, TOGA）项目的组成部分，于1990年12月3日至1991年9月4日期间，在太平洋TOGA区域（北纬30°至南纬30°）由十余艘科考船采集得到水深与温度数据。法国布雷斯特的法国海洋开发研究院（Institut Francais de Recherche pour l'Exploitation de la MER, IFREMER）的让-保罗·雷贝尔（Jean-Paul Rebert）以软盘形式提交了包含1177条剖面的抛弃式温深计（expendable bathythermograph, XBT）原始数据。目前该数据已完成格式转换，可在线获取美国国家海洋数据中心（National Oceanographic Data Center, NODC）的C116（XBT）格式文件。

C116格式数据包含使用抛弃式温深计（XBT）采集得到的温深剖面数据。每条观测记录均附带航次信息、观测位置、日期与时间。数据记录由多组温深数值对构成。该XBT数据文件中的温度值对应非均匀分布的水深，仅记录了精准刻画温度曲线所需的最少数量测点（即"拐点"）对应的水深。标准XBT设备可采集最大深度为450米或760米的剖面数据，若使用专用仪器则可将测量深度拓展至1830米。
