Assessing the quality of land information management systems for sustainable land administration in Ethiopia’s Amhara region

In developing countries, weak governance, limited infrastructure, and outdated technologies continue to hinder effective land administration. In Ethiopia’s Amhara region, the introduction of the Land Information System (LIS) has improved transparency and formal land registration; however, major challenges remain. This study assessed the quality of land information management for sustainable land administration, focusing on data handling, ICT strategies, and infrastructure capacity. The findings indicate that while the LIS has enhanced data storage and accessibility, weaknesses persist in data updating, integration, and system interoperability. ICT strategies are inconsistently implemented, and inadequate infrastructure and limited technical capacity further constrain efficiency. Strengthening data management practices, enhancing ICT coordination and investing in infrastructure are crucial for establishing a sustainable and reliable land administration system in the region.
