Space, Power and Language: Anachóric Spaces, Fiction and Built Form

My thesis uses literary fiction to re-examine the relationship between space, power and language, revitalising the role of fiction in the critical discussion of urban space by challenging the common conception of space as singular. I develop and apply a concept I am calling Anachóric spaces. The term 'Anachóric' draws together three concepts: ana- (again), chora (space), and -ic (pertaining to); thus, Anachóric spaces hold a plurality of space in suspension. The concept is used to unpack a series of typologies of urban space, through literary fiction and built form, and examine the conception and operation of power within them.
