Movhera Foz-Tua: Birds of Riparian Habitats - Operational Phase [2021-2023]

The dataset contains records of birds of riparian habitats (Aves)collected in the lower valley of River Tua (NE Portugal), in the scope of the long-term Ecological Monitoring Program (PME) of the Foz-Tua Hydroelectric Dam (AHFT), promoted by EDP – Energias de Portugal, S.A., subsequently (2021) transferred to Movhera – Hidroelétricas do Norte, S.A. This dataset includes results of surveys made around the areas affected at the initial exploration phase, between February 2021 and October 2023. Sampling was carried out in selected points located in the Tua river banks, in the reservoir areas around the dam (the “impact” points) and in banks above the affected area, as well as in its tributary, the Tinhela river (the “control” points). The birds presence and species identification were assessed by visual and/or acoustic observation from the reservoir or the river margins, with the support of binoculars and a telescope. The records included taxa identified at the species or genus levels.
