George Meikle Kemp

Created by Alexander Handyside Ritchie was born in Musselburgh, the son of a brickmaker and ornamental plasterer. He attended art, architecture and anatomy classes at Edinburgh School of Arts, and then in Rome from 1826-1839. In 1842 he opened a studio at 92 Princes Street from where he executed portrait busts such as this one of the architects of the Scott Monument, George Meikle Kemp.
