The pixels that did not experience changes in land cover types between 2000 and 2010 were then extracted by comparing the results from the two years, to understand the spatiotemporal patterns of the potential afforestation. This hypothetical forest change is not really happening, but is based on changes in the 5 × 5 km sample grid cells of types including NF, CR, GR, and PF that have not changed for 2000-2010.
