CIC Datasets: Workbooks

The Covid in Cartoons project engaged 15-18 year olds with political cartoons and cartoonists to foster processes of meaning-making in relation to the pandemic. Working with Cartooning for Peace and ShoutOut UK we engaged young people in building critical narratives of the crisis and its impact on their lives. We aimed to promote an inclusive, socially-responsive curriculum that supports young people's ability to cope in difficult circumstances. We used surveys, focus groups, and records of the participants' experiences in the form of workbooks to gather data. The project was led by Dr Fransiska Louwagie (PI) and Dr Diane Levine (Co-I), with postdoctoral associates Dr Kara Blackmore and Dr Sarah Weidman, and ran between January 2021 and July 2022. These workbooks comprise Covid in Cartoon participants' reflections as they progressed through the minicourse, focusing on: i) introducing political cartoons, ii) reflecting on the pandemic through cartoons, iii) heroes, inequalities and human rights, and iv) live drawing with a professional cartoonist. Many used a workbook co-produced with SOUK and Cartooning for Peace to help structure their reflections. <br>

“漫画中的新冠”（Covid in Cartoons）项目面向15至18岁青少年，结合政治漫画与漫画家群体，引导其围绕新冠疫情开展意义建构活动。本项目与和平漫画组织（Cartooning for Peace）及英国呐喊（ShoutOut UK）合作，引导青少年构建对这场危机及其对自身生活影响的批判性叙事。本项目旨在推广具备包容性与社会响应性的课程体系，助力青少年提升应对困境的能力。研究数据通过问卷、焦点小组讨论，以及以工作手册形式留存的参与者体验记录采集获得。本项目由弗朗西斯卡·卢瓦吉博士（Fransiska Louwagie，首席研究员/PI）与黛安·莱文博士（Diane Levine，联合首席研究员/Co-I）主导，博士后研究员卡拉·布莱克莫尔博士（Kara Blackmore）与莎拉·韦德曼博士（Sarah Weidman）参与执行，实施周期为2021年1月至2022年7月。这批工作手册收录了“漫画中的新冠”项目参与者在参与微型课程过程中的反思内容，主题涵盖：一、政治漫画入门；二、透过漫画反思新冠疫情；三、英雄、不平等与人权；四、与专业漫画家开展现场手绘创作。多数参与者使用了由英国呐喊（ShoutOut UK，简称SOUK）与和平漫画组织联合编写的工作手册，以规范自身反思内容的架构。
