Information-seeking behavior describes the methods by which people recognize, obtain, and apply information to meet their requirements. Numerous frameworks have been suggested to unravel the intricacies of this behavior, providing perspectives on the cognitive, emotional, and social mechanisms involved. Prominent frameworks include Kuhlthau's Information Search Process (ISP), which focuses on the emotional and cognitive phases of information acquisition, and Wilson's model, which integrates personal, social, and contextual factors. Ellis’s behavioral framework outlines typical actions like browsing and chaining, while the Cognitive Framework emphasizes the mental functions involved in constructing knowledge. Dervin’s Sense-Making Theory accentuates the significance of uncertainty and context in information acquisition, and the Search Process Framework underscores the iterative and cyclical essence of the process. Collectively, these frameworks offer a holistic perspective on how individuals pursue information retrieval, highlighting the dynamic and multifaceted character of seeking information across diverse contexts and tasks.
