Transformistas vs Travestis: transgender experiences inside the Miss Gay Internacional by Theatron

Abstract: This article takes as its starting point the Miss Gay Internacional by Theatron beauty contest, organized by a night club in Bogota, Colombia. The text examines this event and finds a complex and discordant reality between the vision of the organizers, according to whom the competition functions as a platform for transformista artistic performances, and that of some LGBT activists, for whom the event is discriminatory, to the extent that its producers limit the participation of transgender women. In contrast to a global atmosphere conducive to renewal of this type of show, the competition analyzed seems to present resistance to changes related to gender binarity.摘要：本文以哥伦比亚波哥大一家夜店Theatron主办的「国际同性恋小姐（Miss Gay Internacional）」选美赛事为研究起点。通过对该赛事的考察，本文发现主办方与部分女同性恋、男同性恋、双性恋与跨性别者（LGBT）活动家之间存在复杂且相悖的认知分歧：主办方认为该赛事是变装艺术表演（transformista artistic performances）的展示平台；而部分LGBT活动家则指出该赛事存在歧视性，因其主办方限制了跨性别女性的参赛资格。与当前全球范围内此类选美赛事趋于革新的整体氛围相悖，本次研究分析的赛事似乎对与性别二元制相关的变革持抵制态度。
