It is recognized that archaea constitute a significant portion of global biomass. Examining the distribution of microorganisms in submarine canyons presents an opportunity to study the association of microbial dynamics relating to continental-oceanic interactions. Here we investigated archaeal communities along a sediment column over glacial-interglacial cycles in the Pearl River submarine canyon in the northern South China Sea. This study was aimed at determining the vertical distribution of benthic archaea, evaluating their ecological importance in subseafloor biosphere.
学界已证实,古菌(Archaea)在全球总生物量中占据显著份额。对海底峡谷内微生物分布展开研究,可为探究与陆-洋相互作用相关的微生物动态关联提供有效契机。本研究以南海北部珠江口海底峡谷为研究区域,对冰期-间冰期旋回尺度下的沉积柱剖面古菌群落进行了调查分析,旨在明确底栖古菌的垂直分布特征,并评估其在海底深部生物圈中的生态重要性。
