We propose XMM-Newton observations of two radio-loud magnetars XTE J1810-197and Swift J1818.0-1607 which are still recovering from their most-recentoutbursts. XTE J1810-197 is still exhibiting a soft X-ray flux a factor 2 largerthan the nominal value due to the continued existence of a thermal hot spot. The source is currently displaying unique temporal properties not observedbefore neither in outburst nor quiescence. On the other hand SwiftJ1818.0-1607 has decayed by 2 order of magnitude so far solely driven by an areashrinkage with no sign of any cooling an expected property of most magnetartheoretical scenarios. Hence establishing the X-ray evolution of these twosources towards quiescence is crucial for a better understanding of the physical driver of magnetar outbursts. [truncated!
