The purpose of this lab was to identify and compare the number of insects in each quadrat of the grassland and woodlot. The data of this experiment was collected from the grassland lot located at York University Keele Campus (43.7 degrees North, 75.9 degrees West), between York Blvd and Keele St. at 3:00pm. It was 22°C outdoors in the grassland and woodlot. very sunny and quite chilly. The quadrat was randomly placed on the ground in the grassland and woodlot, and the total number of living insects of different species in total in the quadrat were counted by observation and recorded in a table. The quadrat was randomly placed in 10 different spots in the grassland and woodlot and the data were all recorded on the same table for each quadrat, for a total of 20 trials. All the data was collected in a notebook. The experiment was 30 minutes long. Each of the 20 quadrats used in the experiment was measured using measuring tape. Each quadrat had an area of 1m<sup>2</sup>, therefore a total of 20m<sup>2 </sup>of quadrats were used. It was hypothesized that there would be higher number of insects in the grassland while the woodlot would have a lower number of insects. The data supports the hypothesis. Since there is direct sunlight, more grass as well as higher pollination rate of the plants occurs in the grassland compare to the woodlot, there are more insects in grassland than woodlot. <br> <br>
