Digital Archive from an Archaeological Trial Trenching for the Shapwick Heath Habitat Improvement, Northwest of Shapwick, Somerset, May-June 2024

This collection comprises images and a spreadsheet from an archaeological trial trenching on land over two fields proposed for the Shapwick Heath Habitat Improvements, northwest of Shapwick, Somerset. This work was undertaken by AC Archaeology during May and June 2024. The trial trenching identified a large number of archaeological features/deposits and established the presence of at least one stone-constructed Roman building, likely a farmhouse. Other features/deposits of Roman date included pits, linear ditches, and occupation debris. The northern field contained deposits of only limited archaeological interest, while a small number of ditches relating to former land division or drainage and dated to the post-medieval period were also recorded.
