Interpreting and Validating the Political Logic of Officials’ Response to the Covid-19 Pandemic

The time range of the data used in this paper is from 1 January 2020 to 5 May 2020. The specific process of data processing is as follows: (i) Collecting data on epidemic cases from 31 provinces and more than 300 prefectural-level cities in China. (ii) Screening and collating data on the CVs of officials through the portals of governments as well as search platforms such as Baidu. (iii) By matching the epidemic cases data, officials’ data, and control variables data of each province and municipality to finally form a panel data format of 29 provinces and 251 prefecture-level cities. The 29 provinces exclude Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan in China, as well as Tibet and Hubei provinces.

本文所用数据的时间区间为2020年1月1日至2020年5月5日。数据处理的具体流程如下：(i) 收集中国31个省份及300余个地级市的疫情病例数据。(ii) 通过政府门户网站及百度等搜索平台，筛选并整理官员简历（CV）数据。(iii) 将各省份、地级市的疫情病例数据、官员数据与控制变量数据进行匹配，最终形成涵盖29个省份与251个地级市的面板数据格式。该29个省份未包含中国香港、澳门、台湾地区，以及西藏自治区和湖北省。
