Shear strength from automated shear vane (AVS) of the above given hole of International Ocean Discovery Program (IODP) Expedition 386 (Japan Trench Paleoseismology). This dataset was obtained at the end of the core processing workflow during the third phase (Personal Sampling Party, PSP) of expedition 386, which took place between 2022-11-15 – 2022-11-30 onboard D/V Chikyu. Measurements were performed on the work halves of core sections using a Wykeham-Farrance AVS. The apparatus consists of four vanes perpendicular to each other that are inserted in the sediment to their full length while attempting to minimize disturbance to the sediment. A motor loads a helical torsion spring and the bottom of the spring is united to the vane. Therefore, the bottom deflection of the spring records the angular displacement of the sediment, from which undrained shear strength has been calculated. Measurements were attempted approx. every 2 m throughout the core, though, some lithologies, especially in the upper few meters were too soft to obtain reasonable results. 本数据集为国际大洋发现计划(International Ocean Discovery Program, IODP)386航次(日本海沟古地震研究)指定钻孔的自动十字板剪切仪(automated shear vane, AVS)剪切强度数据。该数据集采集于386航次第三阶段——个人采样分队(Personal Sampling Party, PSP)的岩芯处理流程末期,该阶段于2022年11月15日至2022年11月30日期间在“地球号”(D/V Chikyu)钻探船上开展。测量采用Wykeham-Farrance AVS在岩芯段的工作半块上完成:装置包含四块相互垂直的十字板,将其完全插入沉积物的同时尽可能降低扰动;电机驱动螺旋扭转弹簧加载,弹簧底端与十字板相连,因此弹簧底端的挠度可记录沉积物的角位移,据此可计算得到不排水剪切强度。本次测量在整个岩芯中约每2米开展一次,但部分岩性(尤其是上部数米的岩性)过于松软,无法获取可靠结果,此类岩芯深度在本数据集的“剪切强度 [kPa]”列中留空。如需进一步了解方法细节,请参阅Strasser M. 等人2023年发表的相关方法章节,链接:https://doi.org/10.14379/iodp.proc.386.102.2023
