In this study, we examined the impacts of chronic antibiotic exposure across five generations of the keystone zooplankton species Daphnia magna. We utilized an antibiotic suite of aztreonam, sulfamethoxazole, and erythromycin, using sublethal doses in each generation. At each generation, we used a split-brood design, moving 24 juveniles to a no antibiotic treatment and 24 into antibiotics to understand how the microbiome recovered after more generations of exposure.
