Sediments are a major final sink and reservoirs for aromatic compounds in aquatic environment that derived from oil spills, industrial waste, sewage effluent, surface runoff etc. Anaerobic biodegradation of aromatic compounds coupled to sulfate reduction is important to marine sediments because of the abundant sulfate in seawater. The objective of this study was to investigate the potential of facilitating aromatic compounds degradation under sulfate-reducing conditions in sediments by the supplementation of iron oxides.

沉积物（sediments）是水生环境中芳香族化合物的主要最终汇与储库，此类化合物来源于溢油、工业废弃物、污水排放、地表径流等途径。由于海水中硫酸盐含量丰富，与硫酸盐还原过程相耦合的芳香族化合物厌氧生物降解，对海洋沉积物而言至关重要。本研究旨在探究通过添加铁氧化物，在硫酸盐还原条件下促进沉积物中芳香族化合物降解的潜力。
