Border Rivers - Getting the News Out About Riparian Management on Cotton Farm

This project will hold 3 field trips/forums on riparian zone management on cotton farms and develop two case studies. The project, supported by the CottonInfo team, Gwydir Valley Cotton Growers Association, Gwydir Valley Irrigators Association and the North West Local Land Services, will allow stakeholders to hear the latest on best practice riparian management on cotton farms from riverine researchers. Participants will learn how local farmers are successfully implementing best practice into their business and hear from technical experts about how they can manage their riparian environments on farm. Evaluations and discussions from the field trips will contribute to the development of the National cotton NRM campaign for improving environmental stewardship on cotton farms. Case studies will inform the ‘Managing riparian lands in the cotton industry’ guidelines and the cotton myBMP program.

本项目将举办3场针对棉花农场河岸带（riparian zone）管理的实地考察与论坛活动，并将形成2份案例研究。本项目得到CottonInfo团队、吉迪尔谷棉花种植者协会、吉迪尔谷灌溉者协会及西北地方土地服务局的支持，将助力利益相关方聆听河流生态研究者分享的棉花农场河岸带最佳管理实践最新成果。参会者将了解到当地农户如何将最佳管理实践成功融入生产经营，并从技术专家处学习如何在农场层面开展河岸带生态环境管理工作。实地考察与论坛中的评估及研讨成果，将为旨在提升棉花农场环境管护水平的全国棉花产业自然资源管理（NRM）专项行动的制定提供支撑。本次项目形成的案例研究，将为"Managing riparian lands in the cotton industry"指南以及棉花myBMP项目提供参考依据。
