The Garden House, Tewin Water, Tewin. Watching Brief (OASIS ID: heritage1-265853)

In response to a planning condition on the construction of a new garage and an adjacent area of hardstanding for parking at the rear of The Garden House, Tewin Water, Welwyn, Hertfordshire, the Heritage Network was commissioned by the owners to undertake a programme of archaeological monitoring of the groundworks. It was considered that the present investigation had the potential to contribute to a greater understanding of the origins and development of Tewin from the prehistoric period onwards, with particular emphasis on evidence for prehistoric activity as seen in previous work immediately to the south of site (HER 9787). The works involved the monitoring of tree root removal, ground reduction across the footprint of the planned works and the excavation of footings trenches. The trench sections revealed modern topsoil above a clean subsoil, which overlay the natural substratum. No archaeological cut features, deposits or finds were encountered in the course of the project.

针对赫特福德郡韦林地区泰温沃特的花园宅邸后方新建车库及相邻硬质铺装停车区的规划审批要求，业主委托遗产管理网络（Heritage Network）对场地土方工程开展系统性考古监测工作。本次调查有望增进学界对泰温自史前时期以来的起源与发展历程的认知，重点参考遗址南侧此前考古工作（HER 9787）中发现的史前活动遗存相关证据。本次监测覆盖树根移除、规划施工区域的场地平整以及基槽开挖的全过程。槽壁剖面显示，现代耕土层之下为洁净的亚土层，亚土层之上覆盖天然母质层。本次项目全程未发现人工考古遗迹、堆积或出土遗物。
