Zika virus (ZIKV) causes Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) which is a reversible, acute peripheral neuropathy involving varying levels of limb or cranial muscle weaknesses, and diminished deep tendon reflexes. We used a mouse model of ZIKV-induced acute flaccid paralysis with similarities to GBS to identify candidate genes potentially involved in Zika virus-induced paralysis. In two independent studies, RNA extracted from spinal cords (vertebrate column anterior between the hind limbs and posterior the medulla oblongata) of sham-infected, paralyzed, and recovering mice was sequenced on an Illumina NextSeq 500 using the 75 cycle
