Research data for the article “Using Online Translation Tools: Comparing the Experiences of Lithuanian and Ukrainian Generation Z Students”ABSTRACTIntroduction. Translation has been used on and off in language teaching / learning for along time. Currently it seems to undergo a revival stage as a beneficial teaching method. Itis believed that translation activities can help develop all four language skills includinggrammar, vocabulary, and oral communication in higher education. This article aims atexploring attitudes of Generation Z learners with different educational backgrounds toonline translation tools and perceptions of using translation activities to improve languageskills. The study employed a specially designed survey to study learners’ responses totranslation activities. The students who took the questioner were from two countries –Lithuania and Ukraine. Statistical treatment of their responses by a means of StatisticalPackage for the Social Sciences (SPSS) software has been used to establish the level ofsignificance for the statistically two small samples of respondents. Some conclusions havebeen suggested after the analysis of obtained data.Purpose. Explore attitudes of learners with different educational backgrounds (fromdifferent countries: Lithuania and Ukraine) to online translation tools and perceptions ofusing translation to improve language skills.Methods: Specially designed survey to study learners’ responses to translation activities,statistical treatment of their responses using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences(SPSS) software to establish the level of significance for the statistically two small samplesof respondents, and analysis of obtained data.Participants. The two groups of university students of Generation Z of different countries –Lithuania and Ukraine. The students were involved in BA programs at Mykolas RomerisUniversity, Vilnius, Lithuania and Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv, Ukraine.Results. To draw conclusions on the application of online translation activities in languageteaching / learning at tertiary level in the 21 st century. 学术论文《使用在线翻译工具:立陶宛与乌克兰Z世代(Generation Z)学生的使用体验对比》的配套研究数据。 摘要 引言 翻译在语言教与学领域的应用由来已久,其发展历程并非持续不断。当前,翻译作为一种有益的教学方法正迎来复兴阶段。学界普遍认为,翻译活动能够助力高等教育阶段学生全面发展四项语言技能,涵盖语法、词汇与口语交际能力。本研究旨在探究不同教育背景的Z世代学习者对在线翻译工具的态度,以及对使用翻译活动提升语言技能的认知。研究采用专门设计的调查问卷分析学习者对翻译活动的反馈,参与问卷调查的学生来自立陶宛与乌克兰两个国家。研究借助社会科学统计软件包(Statistical Package for the Social Sciences,SPSS)对两组小样本受访者的数据进行统计处理,以确定显著性水平。在对获取的数据进行分析后,本文提出了若干结论。 研究目的 探究来自立陶宛、乌克兰两个不同国家、具备不同教育背景的学习者对在线翻译工具的态度,以及对使用翻译活动提升语言技能的认知。 研究方法:通过专门设计的调查问卷分析学习者对翻译活动的反馈;采用社会科学统计软件包(SPSS)对两组小样本受访者的数据进行统计处理以确定显著性水平;并对获取的数据开展分析。 研究对象 两组来自不同国家的Z世代大学生:分别为立陶宛维尔纽斯米科拉斯·罗梅里斯大学(Mykolas Romeris University)与乌克兰基辅塔拉斯·舍甫琴科国立大学(Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv)的本科(Bachelor of Arts,BA)项目在读学生。 研究结果 为21世纪高等教育阶段语言教与学中在线翻译活动的应用得出相关结论。 关键词:翻译实践、在线翻译工具、核心翻译技能、活动语境下的交际能力、语言技能提升
