Carr Lodge is a brick-built mansion of the late 18th century, originally known as Sunroyd. The building's early history is not well documented, but it was acquired in about 1790 by a nephew of the renowned architect John Carr. Minor extensions were made in the early 19th century, and there have been piecemeal internal alterations throughout, despite which the historic plan-form and numerous historic fixtures and fittings survive.
