Compound Climate Hazard Exposure and Livestock Vulnerability in Nepal: A District-Level Spatial Risk Assessment

This dataset and code repository supports the manuscript "Compound Climate Hazard Exposure and Livestock Vulnerability in Nepal: A District-Level Spatial Risk Assessment". It contains: table1_district_scores.csv : District-level normalized scores for all five MHEI components (flood, drought, landslide, cold wave, heatwave), four LVI sub-components (livestock dependence, poverty headcount, inverted veterinary access, social marginalization), composite MHEI and LVI values, combined risk scores, and LISA cluster classification for all 77 administrative districts of Nepal. Livestock_hazard_final.Rmd : Fully annotated R Markdown pipeline for composite index construction, min-max normalization, bivariate spatial classification, Global Moran's I, LISA analysis, PCA sensitivity checks, and map production. Requires R v4.4+ and the following packages: terra, sf, exactextractr, tidyverse, SPEI, spdep, biscale, cowplot, viridis, scales. nepal_districts.gpkg : GeoPackage of Nepal's 77 administrative district boundaries (WGS84, EPSG:4326) used for spatial aggregation and choropleth mapping. Raw climate and geospatial input rasters (ERA5, CHIRPS v2.0, JRC Global Surface Water v1.5, NASA GPM LHASA v2) are not included here as they are publicly available from their respective sources cited in the manuscript (Table 1). Historical livestock loss data were extracted from Nepal's BIPAD disaster portal (https://bipadportal.gov.np/).
