Microbial Dark Matter project: Applying single-cell genomics, we targeted and sequenced uncultivated archaeal and bacterial cells from nine diverse habitats belonging to 28 major uncharted branches of the tree of life. With this genomic information, we could resolve numerous intra- and inter-phylum level relationships and discovered unexpected metabolic features that extend our understanding of biology and challenge established boundaries between the three domains of life.
微生物暗物质(Microbial Dark Matter)研究项目:本项目依托单细胞基因组学(single-cell genomics)技术,对源自9类不同生境的未培养古菌与细菌细胞开展靶向测序,这些细胞分属生命之树的28个全新未探明的主要分支。借助该基因组数据,我们解析了大量门内与门间的进化亲缘关系,并发现了诸多此前未被认知的代谢特征——这些特征既拓展了我们对生物学的认知边界,也对三大生命域之间既定的划分范式提出了挑战。
