Bust of an Unidenfied Hellenistic Ruler at The British Museum, London

Although the person here represented cannot be identified with certainty, the treatment of the hair in thick, coarse locks, the side-burns and look of fierce determination are typical of some Hellenistic ruler portraits. (The nose and bust are restored). It was bequeathed by Richard Payne Knight and is a Roman copy of the 2nd century AD from a lost Hellenistic original, probably of the 2nd Century BC. This object is part of Scan The World.
